So many people ride for fun and exercise. Biking is great for both! Did you know that there are great low-stress multi-use trails right here in Dorchester where DotBikes are encouraged? Here are some examples:
Boston Harborwalk at Columbia Point
The Boston Harborwalk at Columbia Point is a scenic, pedestrian-friendly shoreline path that completed its full loop around the peninsula in 2015. This segment connects major landmarks including the University of Massachusetts Boston, the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, and Old Harbor Park.
Key features of the Columbia Point Harborwalk include:
- The Missing Link: A critical 800-foot section was completed by UMass Boston to connect the JFK Library area with Old Harbor Park, finalizing the continuous public walkway.
- Scenic Views: The path offers panoramic views of Boston Harbor, the Boston Skyline, and the Harbor Islands, winding through former calf pastures and mixed-income Harbor Point housing.
- Amenities: The trail features granite markers detailing local history, commemorative benches, pavilions, and an outdoor sculpture park featuring works by artists like Willem de Kooning.
- Accessibility: The walkway is part of the larger 47-mile Boston Harborwalk system and is easily accessible via the JFK/UMass Red Line station.
Neponset River Greenway
The Neponset River Greenway is a popular rail-trail located in Dorchester, connecting through the Neponset River Estuary Area. It is part of a nationwide network supported by the Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, utilizing a former unused railroad corridor to provide a scenic path for walking, hiking, and biking.

A convenient access point with parking is located at Pope John Paul II Park in Boston. The greenway is managed as part of the broader Neponset River Reservation and Greenway Project and is actively maintained to connect communities along the river.
Recent developments include the official completion of the greenway’s extension, with MassDOT celebrating the end of a “missing link” in the trail system. This expansion helps further connect the Lower Neponset River trail segments to the Boston Harborwalk and points north of Dorchester, enhancing the continuous recreational experience for DotBikers.
Southwest Corridor
The Southwest Corridor Park is a 4.1 mile, linear park stretching from the Back Bay to Forest Hills. The park links South End, Back Bay, Roxbury and Jamaica Plain with a street-level greenway. Recreational facilities include: 11 playgrounds, 2 spray pools, 7 basketball courts, 5 tennis courts, 2 street hockey rinks, 2 amphitheaters, and 6 miles of trails.
