Blue Hill Ave Town Hall in Dorchester
DotBike and the Blue Hill Ave Project
DotBike is focused on ensuring that the biking infrastructure created through this project is as sensible, comprehensive, low-stress, and connected to other biking and multi-use trail infrastructure as it can be. We encourage you to attend and testify in person, or submit your feedback online to support these goals:
- More connected shared use path along Franklin Park
- Close the one-block gap between Glenway and Columbia
- Continuing the shared use path along Seaver St
- South terminus of bike path at Woodhaven St a. Either extend the bike path one block south to Fremont St for a more direct connection to Neponset b. Or make Babson St a low traffic, traffic calmed neighborhood slow street to enable a low-stress connection to Neponset and Mattapan Square
- Extensive traffic calming on general purpose lanes in Mattapan Square and on the north end of the project in front of Mother Caroline (between Seaver and Warren) a. Since protected bike lanes were removed in these high-foot traffic areas, they should at least provide raised crossings here to prevent excessive vehicle speeds. Not ideal, but this project will not move forward if the city comes out and removes the parking they added back in.
- Fully connect the bike path to Neponset River Trail
- Continue the bike path to Columbia Road (this will be huge once they start working a redesign for Columbia in terms of enabling safe commuting and green space access around Dorchester
Blue Hill Ave – Boston Transportation Department and the MBTA
The Blue Hill Avenue Investment Plan seeks to enhance and support the experiences of everyone along the Avenue.
Blue Hill Avenue runs through the heart of the City, connecting people with places of education, worship, and recreation both locally and throughout Boston. It is a vibrant commercial corridor full of bustling minority-owned businesses. The corridor provides vital access to and from the city’s major employment centers for Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan residents. This three-mile stretch also supports the highest bus ridership in the entire MBTA system, with nearly 37,000 people getting on and off buses each weekday.
The MBTA is gathering feedback about the updated project design. You can view the proposed design block-by-block and tell us what you think using the form linked below:
