Thanks to all those who came and joined us the other day for our summer meeting, and to Pho Hoa for hosting us! We had a great talk over some delicious summer rolls and limeade.  For those who couldn't make it, here are some notes from the meeting.  If you have any questions, ideas, or input, please add your comments below! Want to volunteer to help with something? Email us at dotbike@bostonbiker.com

  • We started out with some discussion on outreach and tabling for the rest of the summer.  We have a new flyer and posters, which we've been using as conversation starters at farmers markets all over the neighborhood.  Makes it easy for any Dot Bike member to do tabling-just grab the materials and go!
    • ideas for more tabling locations: Strand Theater, YMCA, Healthworks
  • Dot Ave bike lane update: Unfortunately, not a lot of new information to report.  With construction sill underway, it remains frustrating to get down the street and through intersections without sharrows and bike lanes.  Seems like it's time to kick up our advocacy a notch to get this done
    • Trying to map the planned and actual locations of markings?  Use to demonstrate the work that still needs doing.  Anyone with mapping skills, we'd love your help!
    • Update from Uphams Corner: New bike lane painted on Columbia road from Edward Everett Square to Stoughton/Dudley st intersection; some disconnectivity but there are now lanes essentially up until Franklin Park.
  • Bike map translations: Spanish, Portuguese, and Vietnamese translations of the Boston Bike Map are now completed and ready for distribution.  We folded and clipped a ton of them to the maps, and brainstormed ideas of where we should make them available
    • Spanish: Codman Square Health Center
    • Portuguese: Dorchester House
    • Vietnamese: Viet Aid, Fields Corner market
    • Codman Community resource fair-a great community resource to add!
    • We need more ideas! Where else should we make these available?
    • Cape Verdean and Haitian Creole translators still needed
  • Outreach to city politicians: We'd love to get some Dorchester politicians to ride with us for next month's Bike Friday.  Rep Henriquez has already shown some interest; Yooree is going to look into extending invitations to some others.
  • RIF will be doing a giveaway to a Dorchester group this month; DotBike will be helping to talk to the recipients about bike safety; we'd appreciate some volunteer help at the event.  Let us know if you're available 8/16 or 17, 23 or 24
