It made me very happy when I showed up to our community garden bike tour this past Saturday, to see ten girls sporting New England Climate Summer t-shirts. For the past 3 years, this program has sent teams of college students biking around New England for two months to connect with residents, community organizations, and local leaders working to address climate change through innovative local solutions. Climate Summer is actually what turned me into a cyclist, after biking with my team around Cambridge, Boston, and the North Shore during the program's first year. So it was really great to have them on the ride, hear about all that they have accomplished this summer, and know that these were future climate-and hopefully bicycle!-leaders in the making.
Along with the Climate Summer riders, we had a big crew turn out for the tour-about 25 people in all. Starting at the Fields Corner T station, we visited a total of 7 gardens around Dorchester, ending at the biggest, Nightingale, in time to enjoy the opening celebration there. Here are a few pictures I took on the ride-enjoy!
