For the safety of our members and the health of the bike fleet, we will be taking the system off the street for the winter months. Beginning November 21, we will remove 5 stations per day until 11:59 PM on November 30 when the system officially closes. You will still be able to return bikes after that time but new rentals will not be…

Yes it's true. The city has finally come through with the promised bike lanes on Dorchester Avenue. The lanes are nearly continuous from Glovers Corner up to Broadway in South Boston. And sharrows have been painted South of Glover's through fields corner at last report. This is great news. We're going to have an impromptu morning commute in ride tomorrow Friday Nov 4th in celebration of these lanes. So meet us at Ashmont Cycles at 7:30 or join in along the way.
Here is a pic…

As you may have heard DCR is applying for a big chunk of funds as part of the TIGER III stimulus money to complete the Neponset Greenway. This includes our favorite missing section that we've taken to calling the Dorchester Coast Trail. The other gaps to be filled include the section between Central Ave.…

By now I'm sure you've heard about Boston's new Hubway bike share program and you may have seen the stations downtown or in other locations around the city. You may even already belong. Wouldn't it be great to get stations and bikes for bike share right…

Well registration for racer's may be closed but for those of us who are just spectators the TD Bank Mayor's Cup bike race should provide exciting bike racing close to home. This year the Mayor's Cup is the finale of the USA Criterium series. It will host an international field of Pro racers as well as very high level amateur racers. There are both men's and women's races as well as a Junior's race. If you aren't familiar with bike racing or if you want to find out details…

It was a bright sunny day and about 20 or so folks joined in for a nice bike ride along the Dorchester Bay Coast. This ride was coordinated by the Metropolitian Area Planning Council (MAPC) Metro Future program. After hearing about what some things that MAPC and the Metro Future program are up to we started off. We rode from JFK station to the current end of the Neponset Greenway Path in Milton and then returned. The extension to…

Last evening the DCR help a public meeting to present their proposed route for the extension of the Neponset Greenway Trail from Central Ave. in Milton to Mattapan Square. The alignment favored by DCR is a modification of one of the proposals that they presented last year and that Dot Bikers had identified as the most favorable option.

It made me very happy when I showed up to our community garden bike tour this past Saturday, to see ten girls sporting New England Climate Summer t-shirts. For the past 3 years, this program has sent teams of college students biking around New England for two months to connect with residents, community organizations, and local leaders working to address climate change through innovative local solutions. Climate Summer is actually…

Dot Bike once again led a convoy last week for Boston's Bike Friday--and, once again, we were the first ones to make it to City Hall Plaza! The report from the convoy leaders is that 15 people met up for the ride, and a few more joined along the way at some of the rougher parts.
Thanks to everyone who came along; check out a few photos from the morning below! Hope to see even more people on July 29th.

Now that the weather has improved and more people are riding and thinking about getting into or maintaining their shape the weekly Ashmont Cycles shop ride appears to be gaining momentum. Generally there are two set times to head out 6:05 p.m. for the faster riders and 6:30 p.m. for a 12 - 14 mph group. The past few weeks there have been 6 or 7 people leaving the shop in each group and usually one or two others are picked…

Sunday was a gorgeous day for the Dorchester Day Parade, and about 12 cyclists joined us to rep Dot Bike, bikes decked out with flags, balloons, and "I bike to work" signs. We rode/marched with other representatives from the Dorchester Environmental Health Coalition, including a crew of fruits and vegetables advocating for a food coop in Dorchester. We handed out Boston Bike maps and blinky lights to cyclists and kids in the crowd, and had a fun time circling around our marching companions…
