1st bike when i was 4 y.o. A green and yellow kids bike. 2nd bike: A red Sears Runaway with banana seat, sissy bars, and tassles. It was a typical 70's Schwinn knock-off. About 3 years later with the nascent of BMX in the late 70's I stripped my bike down and went to a saddle seat, and that started my bike tinkering addiction. I've been riding and modifying ever since! I'm an artist and a nice guy. I'm funny and am a fervent re-/up-cycler, always keeping parts for re-use. I used to bike a lot more a few years back. I grew jaded and complacent when my riding crew broke up and we scattered the earth. I have returned to the Dot and have resumed riding and tinkering.
Activism (what have you done, what do you want done?)
I can proudly say that I am responsible for turning several previous non-riders into successful bike couriers. I have also found, repaired, and donated bikes over the years, mostly kids' bikes. But i am most proud of starting a riding crew in '99 which stemmed from one Critical Mass night into a weekly evening event with a good dozen or so riders. It was fun, plain and simple. By word of mouth and emails, A crew of us would start out in Dorchester, while another crew would start in Davis Sq. we'd converge in Boston and meander throughout the streets, coursing through different neighborhoods in Boston, as well as Cambridge and Somerville. that's all. just keeping it fun.
